The Benefits Issue

Nearly all graduate house staff are NYP employees, and you should take advantage of the wide range of benefits NYP offers. Included in the below newsletter is information related to your medical benefits, mental health resources, child care, and your financial well-being.

HR Connects

NYP’s new HR Connects is a portal that provides 24/7 Human Resources information and support for employees. It is a single, easy-to-access source that includes support via chat, email and phone that can be accessed through the Infonet (on the left navigation page or on the Employee Resources tab) or via the HR Connects mobile app that is pushed to NYP-issued iOS devices or devices with Mobile-Iron enabled Apps@Work. Android devices go to hrc.nyp.org/hc from Google browser.

Annual Health Benefits Enrollment

NYP annual enrollment for medical, vision, and dental benefits is October 21st - November 11th in Workday. If you want to change plans, you must make those changes during annual enrollment unless you have a qualifying life event off-cycle.

Learn more about your choices for 2020 benefits in the Annual Benefits Enrollment Guide. There are differences among plans – make an informed choice based on your needs (for example, POS plan covers IVF and EPO plan does not).
Your Medical Benefits

Medical, Vision and Dental Benefits

You have the choice of two medical plans provided through Aetna: EPO (in-network only) or POS (in- and out-of-network services). With both plans, you automatically receive vision coverage through Aetna Vision Preferred and prescription drug coverage through CVS Caremark. You have a choice of three dental plans: Aetna DMO (in-network only), Columbia Dental Plan (in-network only), and Aetna PPO (in- and out-of-network services).

To find out if your current provider is in an NYP network, or to find a new in-network provider, go to nyp.aetna.com, select ‘Check Your Doctor’ in the menu bar, and click your plan to view the provider directory.  NYP Select Physicians are a group of physicians who have agreed to participate in the NewYork-Presbyterian Aetna plans but they do not participate in any other Aetna plan.

Download the Aetna Health App to easily manage your health benefits and connect with care.

Virtual Urgent Care

NYP OnDemand offers Virtual Urgent Care so that Aetna-covered NYP employees and their dependents can use telemedicine services to visit with a board-certified Columbia or Weill Cornell Medicine physician for a $0 co-pay. There is flexibility with services, which are offered seven days a week (Adults: 8 a.m. - midnight and Pediatrics: 4 p.m. – midnight). Enroll online or by downloading the NYP app by texting “NYP” to 69697.

Care for Workplace Injuries

Please use NYP Workforce Health and Safety (WH&S) services first for evaluation related to a workplace injury (including needle sticks). WH&S office clinic locations and hours are listed here for all sites.

If WH&S offices are closed or if you have a serious emergency, use the emergency departments (EDs).

When you arrive in the ED, please identify yourself to the front desk clerks and triage staff as a member of the graduate staff to best ensure that:

  • Every attempt will be made to evaluate and treat you expeditiously, consistent with both the nature of the medical problem and the circumstances.
  • Every attempt will also be made to have an attending physician provide your care directly, confidentially, and with as much privacy as is possible in an ED.
  • You are registered, to allow for proper documentation of your treatment and diagnostic tests. With this documentation, care provided is free of charge; if you receive an invoice, please forward to gmedata@nyp.org.

Flu Vaccinations

The flu vaccine in injectable formulation is currently available free-of-charge to all NYP employees and medical staff at all sites through December 5th.  Vaccinated staff will have a sticker affixed to their ID badges. NYP employees and physicians considering declining the vaccination are required to take an online educational course about influenza on the NYP Learning Center.

Benefits Related to Your Children
Parental Leave

NYP employees who have been employed for twelve consecutive months have a paid parental leave benefit that includes: six weeks of fully paid leave for primary parents (birth, adoption or surrogacy) to devote to welcoming their new child/ren; and two weeks of full paid leave for secondary parents. House staff should also discuss leave plans with their program directors in order to review and best accommodate for ACGME-mandated curricula and specialty board eligibility requirements. Please contact the GME office at GMEdata@nyp.org to arrange and document your leave or to discuss other questions and concerns you may have around your leave eligibility.
Backup Child & Adult/Elder Care Services and Resources

NYPH offers subsidized backup child and adult/elder care through Bright Horizons. New parents now have ten additional back-up childcare days for the first twelve months of the child’s life. Learn how to use this benefit and review some FAQs about coverage. Visit the Bright Horizons website here.
Lactation Rooms

To access the employee lactation rooms at all NYPH sites complete the Employee Lactation Request Form at least 3 business days prior to your return to work.  You will receive a confirmation email after you submit the Employee Lactation Request Form. Access can take up to two business days to be completed.
Benefits Related to Your Finances
Direct Deposit and ADP iPay

If you are enrolled in Direct Deposit, you are eligible to enroll in ADP iPay to electronically view your pay statements and W-2s.
Employee Discounts

All Hospital employees are eligible to purchase discounted tickets for a wide array of events, such as Broadway shows, sporting events, and other fun activities. You can view a full list on the Infonet here. Check out the Health and Fitness club discounts available as well as the NYP/CU Employee Fitness Center.
Flexible Spending Account

With a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you can put aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses including co-pays. This reduces your taxable income and increases your take-home pay. You decide how much you contribute to your Health Care or Dependent Care FSA, and then use the money in the accounts to reimburse yourself for eligible expenses. Learn more.

Commuter Transit and Parking Program

With Mass Transit and Commuter Parking FSAs, you can contribute on a pre-tax basis for work-related public transit or parking. Unlike health care or dependent care FSAs, you can enroll, change or cancel your Commuter Benefit accounts at any time. Learn more.
NYP Retirement Plans Moved to Prudential in September

Visit nyp-pru.com and click on your plan name to view details about how the transition will work with your plan, including key dates to keep in mind, and any changes you can expect after the transition is complete. Employee Housing

We are pleased to announce that we again have apartment availability in NYP Hospital properties at both our East and West campuses. All NYP employees are eligible. Our Culture of Respect

At NewYork-Presbyterian, every employee and provider who practices in our Hospital is entitled to respectful treatment within the workplace. The NYP Credo reminds us of who we are, how we will (and will not) behave, and what we believe in. It reinforces our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging at NYP. Each of us has a role to play in making our Credo come to life. Visit the Culture of Respect page for resources, contacts, and communications for employees to support and strengthen our culture of respect.
